The Watershed Series

The Watershed Workshop Series is a joint project of three organizations fighting to protect sensitive ecological zones in the Georgian Bay area.  Those organizations are: The Blue Mountain Watershed Trust, The Collingwood Nature League, and Elephant Thoughts.   The goal of the workshops is to instill a passion for environmental stewardship amongst young people, while at the same time introducing them to the ongoing political issues that surround them.

Because the cost of the workshops is split between the three organizations, these half-day workshops are free to schools.  Although the workshops were created based on the grade 7 and 8 science curriculum, they are also appropriate for students in grades 5 and 6.  These exciting workshops will have students handling live indigenous endangered species, using interactive water table models, testing local water samples for pollutants, hunting for microscopic life and more!

Each Workshop Includes:

  • 2.5 hours of instruction by a qualified teacher
  • A student workbook with more activities and information
  • A teacher package of ready-to-use activities, quizzes and worksheets to do with your class

Topics discussed include:
