Muscle Heads Health and Nutrition

Muscle Heads is our one of a kind health and nutrition program.  Developed with the participation and endorsement of  3-time World Cup Champion and Canadian Olympian Downhill Skier,  Todd Brooker, this full day of fun is designed to inspire students to live healthy lifestyles.  The program is built to complement the Ontario grade 5 and grade 8 life systems (science) curriculum but is appropriate for students grades 4 through 8, with links to the health and physical education curriculum.  Muscle Heads naturally promotes the daily physical activity (DPA) requirement in Canada’s youth by exciting them with awesome, whiz, bam, boom, ooey, gooey and truly unforgettable science demonstrations!

Muscle Heads:

  • Is a totally unique new way to promote healthy living
  • Delivers hands-on, science center quality workshops on the science of sports and good health
  • Shows kids the benefits of being active and what happens when you are not
  • Reaches children who are not interested in an active lifestyle through an exciting medium they adore: hands-on science!
  • Accesses athletes, non-athletes, boys and girls alike
  • Acknowledges that the earlier kids understand the importance of health, the more likely they are to develop healthy habits for the rest of their lives
  • Recognizes that healthy minds need healthy bodies
  • Dispels the ‘beauty myth’ and recognizes the pressures young people put on themselves for the sake of appearance

Components include:

Gross Anatomy:  The science of how the body works, from cells, to organs, to organisms, and the differences between a physically fit body and an unhealthy body.

Kitchen Chemistry:  The science of good nutrition and the effects of junk food on the body.

The Science of Sport:    What is happening in your body during sports activities?  What changes happen? How do the muscles work?  How can you enhance performance with fitness and training?

The Science of Addiction:  What do drugs, alcohol, and smoking do to your body?

What you will see kids doing:

  • Climbing into a giant 16 foot in diameter inflatable model of a human cell to begin their journey through the human body.
  • Tracking their heart rate while playing giant screen interactive video games
  • Running around in giant-sized human hamster balls
  • Experimenting with interactive human torso’s as they learn about body systems
  • Performing super gross but fun experiments with food as we learn what is in some of the things we eat
  • Hooking each other up to amazing contraptions that measure our heart rates and other physical functions before and after activity
  • Using safe non-toxic chemicals to make simulated tobacco tar slime, like what a smoker would find in their lungs
  • And many more awesome demos and hands-on activities!

Finally, the best part is Muscle Heads is free for schools living in our sponsored areas!  Please call to see if you school can have a program sponsored by one of our local partners.  If not, we offer not-for-profit rates to bring this very exciting program to students.
