Schools 4 Schools

Schools 4 Schools is Elephant Thoughts’ answer to a traditional school fundraiser.  We recognized very early that although a lot of organizations partner with schools to raise funds for the developing world, often the relationships were particularly one sided.  Canadian students often raise funds and feel great about it, but still don’t understand the issues surrounding the developing world.  

Our answer to this was the creation of an amazing series of workshops delivered throughout the year to the fundraising class.  These provide students with incredible incite into the global community and the cause they are fundraising for.  The workshops are also built around the Ontario curriculum (media literacy strand), which is exciting for teachers too.  

Our series of workshops use simulation activities, documentaries, class discussion, and the creation of a professional quality film to allow students to explore international development issues, while fostering compassion and empathy for people and cultures all over the globe.  At the same time students select and fundraise for a project of their choice, making a real difference in the lives of children in the developing world. 

The advantages to the S4S program are:

  • Students are connected directly to the project they are undertaking with progress reports and the option to correspond.
  • Students don’t just fundraise, they learn about developing world issues.
  • Elephant Thoughts helps with the fundraising in the school by providing resources that make it easy.  We take as much of the work off the teachers plate as possible.
  • We provide the teachers with assessment tools (checklists, rubrics, anecdotal record sheets) for each workshop.
  • And of course, we help kids across the planet who really need it.

This program is offered free of charge to any NGO* who would like to raise money while at the same time educating North American school children about the developing world.  We will send you all the available material and even train you on the program.
