In such an event, verbal and written notice will be given.

Camp Counselors

Every camp has a minimum of 2 staff. Our staff are trained and have experience teaching and leading groups of children. All staff hired undergo a stringent hiring process and are required to undergo a police record check prior to employment. Often our camps have volunteers to help out staff and gain valuable work experience. Our volunteers undergo all the same screening as paid staff.

What to Bring

Campers are asked to bring the following each day:

human hamster balls

  • A healthy lunch with snacks (no nuts please!)
  • A water bottle
  • Sunscreen (please apply before coming to camp each day)
  • A sunhat
  • Shoes suitable for physical activity
  • An inquisitive mind!

Lunch and snacks

Campers are to bring their own lunch and snacks each day. We ask that you avoid any nut/ peanut products to ensure the safety of children with allergies. Elephant Thoughts is an environmental organization and we encourage litterless lunches! Since campers are more active than usual it is recommended that an extra snack or more substantial snacks are packed. A couple of camp activities involve making food. If your child has any allergies or dietary restrictions please advise camp staff prior to the camp start date.

Injury and illness

The health and safety of campers is a priority for Elephant Thoughts. Safety considerations are incorporated in every one of our activities. If a camper is injured or becomes ill at camp they are monitored closely by ET staff and an incident report is completed. If it is a minor injury or illness you will be notified at the end of the day. If a camper is injured or ill and they can no longer participate in camp activities you will be called to pick your child up immediately.

If your child is ill, or has a fever, or has pink eye please do not send them to camp. If a child requires medication please advise the camp counselor and provide written instructions for administration.

Camp Sponsorship

Did you know that Elephant Thoughts sponsors at least 2 kids per week to attend camp who otherwise might not have the opportunity?! Our mandate is to ensure kids have access to an education despite the economic barriers they face – and that includes an education through summer camp! This initiative is made possible through the generosity of local businesses and community members. If you would like more information or if you would like to help send a kid to camp please contact Lisa at 705-444-2012 x103 or lisa [Email address: lisa #AT# elephantthoughts.com - replace #AT# with @ ].
