The Canadian Aboriginal Youth Science Initiative is designed to find creative means to promote science and technology to Aboriginal children while at the same time allowing them to understand how their unique perspective on our environment can be integrated into S and T disciplines. Workshops to remote locations, exhange program opportunities, professional development for northern teachers, and curriculum consultation are just a few of the ways CAYSI is helping to inspire an interest in science and technology amongst Canadian aboriginal students.
At the heart of the CAYSI program is our proprietary hands-on, science workshop programming. These exciting and effective workshops are delivered year-round focusing on hundreds of customized program topics for every aspect of the science and technology provincial curricula. Our workshops achieve many ends: extra-curricular enrichment for the students, a means to excite the students about the topics being studied, and a means to apply the lessons outlined in the curriculum to hands-on applications. In addition, our workshops offer equipment and expertise second to none in the country.
Courses range from full sized inflatable planetariums to state-of-the-art robotics engineering. New topics are added every year and are always custom designed to best suit the group of students. Hundreds of exciting workshop titles are available for students right from Kindergarten to Grade 12. To complete our offering, all in-school workshops are supplemented with a full arsenal of teacher tools such as manuals, worksheets, testing, and outlines for follow-up activities.
Summer Science Camps
Elephant Thoughts is the only organization in Canada able to bring this degree of high quality summer science camps to remote locations. Our camps are rivaled only by the best in-house science camps at major museums and educational institutions. Children participate in one full week of hands-on science activities including building and programming robots, photography and digital media, chemical reactions, spectacular science shows, evening telescope viewing, and so much more. Our programs are built on the principal of FUN, FUN, FUN, and aim to excite the children about pursuing science, spark their imaginations, and expose them to exciting aspects of science and technology in a camp type setting. Our camps are available in both French and English for elementary or secondary students.
